INITIALLY IT WAS A KIDNAPPING INVESTIGATION!
Dallas police say a tow truck driver unknowingly hauled away a car with a 7-year-old boy sleeping inside. They say 23-year-old Fidel Retana Jr. returned the car minutes later and sped away.
A police report says the panicked parents of the missing boy watched the driver hurriedly unhook their car and take off as they met with authorities late Monday. A possible kidnapping investigation at the apartment complex had already begun and Retana was pulled over a short time later and arrested on child endangerment charges. But police said yesterday that they expect to drop the charges. David Traylor is Retana's attorney. He says his client towed the car after it was parked in a fire lane while the boy's mother ran upstairs to her apartment. He says Retana noticed the boy only when he stopped to ensure that the car was hooked up properly. Traylor said Retana left the second time in a hurry because he knew the parents were there and were probably angry. Authorities say the boy was still asleep when the car was returned. But they say the boy's mother was crying and vomiting outside when they arrived.
He should've checked in the car first BUT, she should've left her 7 year old in the car by himself.
ReplyDeleteCharges should have been files against the mother

ReplyDeleteBTW it is interesting that he checked to see if the car was safely secured AFTER he had already towed it for some distance. I guess damage to the towed vehicle, hazard to other vehicles and pedestrians, and overall professionalism are not part of the towing industry creed. Typical tow truck driver "leech of society" operation.
As long as they keep local politicians fat with contributions and give local police "commissions" for police ordered tows, this outrage will continue unabated throughout Texas.
Well, when a towtruck loads a vehicle that is illegally parked ,such as parked in a fire lane or in a tow-away zone ,blocking a driveway ,the mission of the driver is to get hooked and get out, once he has the vehicle loaded the driver will take the car a block or two and place tow lights and double check the hook up,not drive several miles and then look ,although i disagree with the tow trucks action , he should have contacted law enforcement and explained the situation , chances are charges would have been filed on the mother and not the tow truck driver ,for the person who called them leeches, read the do not block , do not park ,this is a fire lane and you should not have a problem, 98 percent of them are just doing thier job .and yes it is a job, it does take brains for a real tow truck driver to take care of business .
