FORMER KRIV EMPLOYEE DIES AFTER ACCIDENT!

HE WAS WORKING ON A TRACTOR ON HIS PROPERTY!

Former FOX 26 Chief Meteorologist Robert Smith has died after an accident that took place outside his home.

The accident took place Saturday when Smith, 59, was working on a tractor to dig a trench on his property. Smith had planned to dig the trench in order to fix a pipe that affected plumbing in his home.

The tractor passed over a hole, flipped and fell onto Smith.

Smith was taken by LifeFlight to a hospital, but physicians were not able to save him.

FOX 26 News learned that Smith and his wife Karen had celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary one week earlier.

Smith had served as Chief Meteorologist at FOX 26 from 1989 until 2000.

One of Smith's sons told FOX 26 anchor Mike Barajas that his father "died on a Saturday, being outside, enjoying the beautiful weather."

In addition to his wife Karen, Smith is survived by six children and several grandchildren. His son Ty died of brain cancer at the age of 19 in 1989.
