HE RESIGNED FROM THE FORCE IN MARCH!A longtime Baton Rouge police officer who resigned from the force last month, has been charged with distribution of child pornography, U.S. Attorney David Dugas said Thursday.
Paul Ruiz worked as a lieutenant at First District on Plank Road for 26 years. He resigned from the force on March 7th amid a federal investigation.
A bill of information filed in the case alleges Ruiz "knowingly distributed, via computer, visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct, the producing of which involved the use of minors engaging in such conduct, and which had been shipped and transported in interstate commerce."
If convicted, Ruiz faces five to 20 years in prison, Dugas said.
Baton Rouge Police Chief Jeff LeDuff released the following statement Thursday evening:
"These are very serious allegations, especially when they involve a former police officer. It's unfortunate, and it's now up to the system to determine whatever justice is appropriate."
