IT'S A VERY SAD DAY AT RADIO ONE!

SOURCES: BROTHER LARRY JONES' CONTRACT NOT RENEWED FOR THE YOLANDA ADAMS MORNING SHOW!

The Insite hears Radio One has parted ways with a long time off and on high profile employee. For years many of us knew him as Funky Larry Jones...now many nationally know him as Brother Larry from the Yolanda Adams show. Sources tell the Insite Brother Larry was released from the company today after his contract was not renewed. The exact reason has not been given for the departure by the company but insiders say they all received an email stating Brother Larry was no longer with the company. One source says they're all heartbroken at Radio One about the departure. Larry was on the air for the last several years as one of the hosts of the gospel show. If one thing is certain The Insite knows Brother Larry Jones to be a true survivor. This is just a minor set back and we will likely hear him on the airwaves again. So far I have not been able to reach Brother Jones or execs at Radio One!

Larry's Bio:

As an eminent statesman of truth and honor, a distinguished Radio personality, a worker and voice in the labor of love for God, Lawrence Gregory Jones has been on‐air personality since 1973. He is a man of noble spirit, humanitarian principles, and one who possesses a compassionate understanding of the suffering and persecuted. Larry Jones knows that his power lies in the power of God. Larry Jones is one of Houston’s most beloved and respected air personalities.

After stints in Little Rock and Tulsa to strengthen and perfect his traits, Larry Jones made his way to Houston to host a morning show. His high moral integrity, lofty ideals, broad sympathies, and unselfish devotion to principles of equality took him to stations in other cities… New York, Chicago, St. Louis, Milwaukee and Memphis where he was relevant in nature and liberal in spirit. He believes that “the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.” And in that order, he walks with a sincerity of purpose, a commanding eloquence, and a rare combination of judgment, given to him by Jesus Christ.

  2. I listen to the show every morning on my way to work. Last week I noticed that brother larry wasnt on the show. I initially thought he was just on vacation. However, this week while listening, I realized that the team wasnt even saying his name. It was weird! You can totally tell that the vibe is different. It's something missing and that something is brother larry. He completed their circle. Although, I love all of the co-hosts, brother larry just brought something special to the show that completed it. I can tell he is missing. It's a mess but I know God has something better in store for him.

  3. B.H. - I too miss Bro. Larry Jones. I called the station after not hearing his voice for two weeks. I was told he was no longer on the show. What a loss! I am still an avid listener of the Morning Show but I really miss Larry.

You know I thought Radio One did that to him. I had been trying for weeks now months to get a answer but it's hard to get in if it's not prize time. I know Yolanda Adams is the National name to carry the station but Bro. Larry was the local name and he was the master on DJ in Houston. This is the problem with big companies taking over same business. They are always thinking about the almighty dollar. I think I'm gonna to switch back to 1360am because I only switched because of Larry Jones hosting in the first place. Yolanda is good but there is no Radio Pro handling the mic and they seem more childish and silly now, more then they ever had. It's one thing to have a sensor of humor and praise the Lord but to be just a silly and no order like the other radio channels leaves me wondering. How are we setting ourselves apart to do something different for the Kingdom of God. We shouldn't settle and compromise and those other personalities should have stood up and stated that they are all a team and we balance each other out. Yolanda knows good and well she couldn't have made it this far on the radio without her homeboy, church buddy Larry Jones. So come on now, living on purpose should give you some backbone too. What God got for you, he's got for you but what are you really showing and displaying to people. Long as I get my checks rolling in, I'm cool with it but I'm sad. I'm positive he will land on his feet but their ratings will suffer just like 102FM did when they put on Tom Joyner which I can't stand. They play too much, ever since 911 with J Anthony Brown, that has been a deleted station in both cars. Thanks for letting people know the truth.

I too though Brother Larry was on vacation, but I noticed that no one was saying anything about him so I checked the internet and found out his contract wasn't renewed. What a shame, but you know when one door closes God will open a bigger and better one. Larry if you happen to read this post stand still and let God do his work.

What shame! I was listening to the radio and I noticed Yolanda did not mention Brother Larry Jones so I continued to listen for a couple of days and nothing. I just checked the Internet. Wow! I can't believe that Radio One would not renew this man's contract. What are they thinking? I have been listening to the show on 1190 WLIB for 3 years. I love the show.
Brother Larry Jones is just as much apart of that show as anyone else. He really helped bring control and stability to the show. It's shame that he was let go. If it is not broke don't fix it. Whatever happened to quality radio. Radio One you need to bring him bring back and stop this sillyness.

A sad day. I also agree that AV cannot replace Brother Larry. I did sense a hint of arrogance with AV, but it seems as though he is beginning to mellow out. And, of course, Marcus is getting stronger and funnier, which balances out the show in a very positive way. But honestly, I really don't see the show lasting for long in the near future. I find their theology sometimes is far right and they have an "holier than thou" attitude. It's like "just do as we say" and you'll be alright!
