CITY OF HOUSTON TO THE COUNTY: GIVE US OUR LAND BACK NOW!

The Insite has learned there is a legal battle brewing between the city of Houston and Harris County.

At issue is a plot of land located on West Dallas near downtown Houston.

It's where the old Harris County Juvenile Detention Center was located until 2006.

According to a letter fired off from the City Attorney's office there is an agreement in place that transfers the land from the county to the city.  That's once Harris County stopped using the facility to house juvenile offenders.

That letter from City Attorney David Feldman's office indicates the keys to the property should be handed over immediately.

Terry O'rouke with the Harris County Attorney's office sees the letter as threatening.

A spokesperson from Mayor Annise Parker's office says the letter wasn't meant to be threatening.

Jessica Michan says in fact the county and city are now in negotiations to decide who gets the land.

According to the letter the city of Houston is planning to sell the land to Lighthouse for the Blind.
