ARE YOU AFRAID TO GO INTO SOME HOUSTON NEIGHBORHOODS?

ONE KID TOLD ME HE WOULD PUNCH ME IN THE FACE - TELL ME YOUR EXPERIENCE!

I overheard a live truck operator for a local station say he didn't feel comfortable going into an African American and Hispanic neighborhood at night. I wasn't surprised because I've heard it time and time again in other television markets over the course of my career. They typically say that neighborhood is too dangerous, the people are too dangerous. But for some reason The Insite has never been afraid to go into any neighborhood. I've never had a bad experience that I recall with those people who live in the quote rough neighborhoods. In fact, I notice I get the warmest receptions in those so called "bad communities." The only time someone had cross words for me is when I approached a family after someone was shot and killed about 4 years ago in Northeast Houston. The victim of the son said he would punch me in the face. I realized he was going through an emotionally tough time so dismissed his threat. But I have noticed when I go into 'some' and I do mean some middle and upper class neighborhoods the reception is somewhat icy. No one watches the news and no one has time. I guess they're all headed to work to keep those middle and upper middle class homes. But back to the topic at hand. I can't seem to grasp why some people are so afraid of other people. Have you ever been required to go to a neighborhood that has absolutely scared you to death and why? The Insite would love to hear our opinion on this issue!

I live in Sienna Plantation, which is a really nice neighborhood. However some of the people in the community "snoody". I visit in communities like hiram clarke, south park, third ward, and fifth ward, and it is the warmest filling next to chocolate cake! You would be suprized at how much you can actually learn from the people that live in the so called "bad neighborhoods". Prime example I was at a local gas station when I had a low tire, a gentlemen offered to help me put air in it, and I accepted! He told that alot of people put to much air in their tires and it causes the tires to go bad. I never knew that! When I would usually put air in my tires I would put entirely to much, and that is why I made trips to the discount tire store on a regular basis. I'm am proud to say that I ran into that gentlemen..I mean this is only one example, I learn so much from them because they are "Real" people in those communities! When I have a craving for some ribs or boiled crawfish and its definetly not "Luthers" or "Rajun Cajun". To get back to the point the people in so called "bad neighborhoods" will not hurt you unless you piss them off!!!! Nothing to be scared of!

it is foolish to use one example as a statistic. bad neighborhoods are exactly that.....BAD! Keep on walking around then and you will see why they earn the distinction of being bad. Walk around without your news team backing you up and see what happens.

For the record I am not a reporter. I visit the so called "bad neighborhoods" often ALONE!! I do not need any backups!! Like I originally said people do not attempt to just bother you for no apparent reason. If you visit certain places where you are not known and it is obvious you shouldn't be there then its your fault! Just like any other neighborhood there will be crime. I ride all around the Prestigious neighborhoods all the time, and to be honest you really have to really watch your back >>just like any other neighborhood They have Crackheads, Meth heads,Prostitutes, Domestic Violence,ALCOHOLICS and drunk drivers for sure! Just because the Prestigious communities are fortunate to make the appearance look good on the outside IT IS ALL THE SAME!!!!! So Do not judge Neighborhoods who are not fortunate to cover uo the F*** ups!!

  4. Bad neighborhoods are those with less monetary resources to be "good" neighborhoods. I bought, and live in, a house in a neighborhood where the income median and house values are at or below $30K and 70K respectively. I have found in my life expereince that they problems that exist in the poor "bad" neighborhoods are present in the "good" aka rich neighborhoods, they just hide theirs better.

And to answer the question in the headline. Yes I am afraid when I drive into my friends affluent majority white neighborhood. Having witnessed first hand the "what are you doing in this neighborhood this late at night" police interrogation that goes on, I visit during the day or meet her somewhere!
