THE COST OF A PUBLIC INFORMATION FIGHT TO METRO: $40,000!
Press Release from Metro: The lawsuit between Lloyd Kelley and METRO was settled today in Judge Al Bennett’s court.
The lawsuit stemmed from a Texas Public Information Act request filed by Kelley back in January, in which he alleged that documents related to his request were destroyed.
In the Agreed Final Judgment, the court found METRO had not engaged in any improper or illegal destruction of documents, including electronic media, responsive to or related to Kelley’s document requests.
“As we always knew, no documents were destroyed at METRO,” said METRO Chairman of the Board Gilbert Garcia, CFA. “We are pleased with the outcome, and we can now focus on METRO’s mission of serving the community.”
As approved earlier by the court, METRO’s Board of Directors adopted an approved records retention policy at its May Board meeting.
As part of the agreement, METRO will pay Kelley’s legal fees of $40,000.
