FEMALE SECURITY OFFICERS TOLD NOT TO WEAR BLOND HAIR BY LOCAL SECURITY FIRM MANAGER!

  1. I think most employers have something about only natural hair colors being worn in the workplace. It gets kind of tricky when it comes to black women who typically don't have blonde hair. Green, blue and red are obviously not natural. When you go to work you represent your company.

OH BOY!!! That's a very sticky subject! You have to be very careful when telling Black Women anything about their hair! We often get a little out of sorts when our hair is ridiculed. We also get downright mad when we're told that we can't wear our hair the way we would like. However, when working in a professional place of business, we have to remember that shock value isn't the best way to get attention in the workplace. We have to understand that when we wear our hair in different colors other than our natural color, we draw attention to ourselves. So, we really can't be mad when that attention that we were looking for just happens to turn into negative attention. I would like to remind women of color to remember that first impressions are lasting ones. As a former security officer, (just so happened to have worked for A.B. also), I know that whenever you meet and greet someone, they would always take a quick assessment of you and their surroundings. Usually, they would treat the surroundings based on how they felt about you. If you act and dress in a professional manner, then they would readily obey the rules of the property and act accordingly. If you act and dress poorly, they would pretty much treat the rest of the establishment as if it were their own. I want people to come into my area/place of business and treat it and me with respect. Therefore, I save the blonde hair and hazel eyes for the weekend. I'm just saying...
