HISD OFFICIAL HONORED BY HOUSTON'S MAYOR!

ATHLETIC DIRECTOR MARMION DAMBRINO HONORED WITH A PROCLAMATION!    

Today, the Houston City Council and Mayor Annise Parker, at their weekly meeting, issued a proclamation recognizing HISD’s Athletic Director Marmion Dambrino. Dambrino is the first woman to serve as Director of Athletics in the history of the school district. Today, the city council declared September 21^st as “Marmion Dambrino Day.”

“I have been involved in Houston athletics for quite some time and no matter where I go or what sporting event I attend, Ms. Dambrino is always there and has been there for years giving her support to Houston’s children,” said Houston City Council Member Jolanda Jones. “I congratulate Ms. Dambrino and commend HISD for taking this bold step.”

Dambrino was promoted in August by Superintendent Dr. Terry Grier, after previously serving as HISD’s Senior Athletic Program Administrator.  She has worked with HISD for 22 years serving as dean of students, associate principal, assistant principal, school administrator, and teacher at the middle and high school levels. During her career, she has also coached basketball, volleyball, track and boys and girls swimming.  Dambrino received a bachelor’s degree from The University of Southern Mississippi and a Masters of Education from Prairie View A&M University

“I applaud HISD and the historical step they have taken by selecting a woman to lead the district’s athletic program,” said Dambrino. “The task is large and the challenges are many but I am excited and am looking forward to what lies ahead. I love the Houston Independent School district, I love this city, and I thank everyone who has shown their support for me in my new role.”
