HARRIS COUNTY DEPUTY GETS MAJOR HONOR!

Sheriff Adrian Garcia and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, along with Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jerry Eversole, will come together at the renaming of the HCSO’s Firearms Complex in honor of a retiring veteran deputy.

Deputy Michael Faas joined the HCSO on April 16, 1973 under Sheriff Jack Heard.

At the time, he was assigned to the Harris County Rehabilitation Center on Atascocita Road. In 1975, Deputy Faas became an instructor at the HCSO Academy, where he has taught over 100 basic peace officer classes to over 4,000 cadets.

To honor his hard work and dedication, Commissioner Eversole recently received authorization from the Harris County Commissioner’s Court to rename the HCSO Academy’s Firearms Complex after Deputy Faas.

During his 37-year career with the HCSO, Deputy Faas has become quite the expert in a number of subjects, most notably the Texas Penal Code.

He’s known for his ability to recite the Penal Code from memory and has qualified in federal and state courts as an expert in criminal law.

He also designed the current firearms qualification course and has been consulted in the design of many courses and facilities.

After his official retirement on Dec. 31, Deputy Faas plans to travel and care for his 9-month-old grandson.

He also plans to continue serving the citizens of Harris County by becoming an HCSO Reserve deputy.
