Houston’s police chief says his department is looking to save money, and personnel reductions are not out of the question.
In a statement released to FOX 26 News on Monday, HPD Chief Charles A. McClelland, Jr. said the 2012 budget will be one of the “most difficult” budgets for the city and department.
“Currently, we are in the preliminary stages of Fiscal Year 2012 budget preparations,” said Chief McClelland. “We are examining every line item to identify possible cost savings. There is nothing in the budget that is considered off limits, including personnel reductions.”
According to Houston Police Officers Union Vice President Ray Hunt, the department is already short by 1,000 officers.
