The NBA has locked the players out, but that doesn’t mean they can’t
compete on another court. That’s why John Lucas is hosting the “Houston Lockout
Celebrity Basketball Game”, Sunday, November 20th, at 5pm at Delmar Stadium.
Lucas has
confirmed more than 20 current players including Chicago Bulls guard Derrick
Rose, Dallas Mavericks guard Jason Terry, Minnesota Timberwolves forward
Michael Beasley and Houston Rockets players Luis Scola, Chandler Parsons, Jonny
Flynn and Kyle Lowry. NBA Hall of
Famer Moses Malone and seven-time NBA Champion Robert Horry will serve as
coaches.
The
pre-game action includes an exhibition game with 8th grade AAU
teams, The Texas Cagers and Houston Select. Local contemporary gospel trio
‘Soulfruit’ will sing the National Anthem and the dance team Wyld Styl will perform
at half time. The game will also
be broadcast live on KCOH Radio and KCOHRadio.com with NBA Hall of Famer Calvin
Murphy and Veteran sportscaster Ralph Cooper calling the action.
“We’re
excited about the entire lineup especially the radio broadcast with Calvin
Murphy and Ralph Cooper,” Lucas said. “Players are coming in from around the
NBA to participate and they’re coming on their own dime. It should be a great
weekend and a great game!” Proceeds from the game will benefit charities
including the John Lucas Foundation (JLF), which helps athletes who need after
care or wellness services and programs.
Lucas says they will also honor Houston area high school
players who have signed letters of intent to play in college. “Derrick Rose
will not play but he will be a part of honoring the high school players..
Lucas thanked his sponsors: Powerade, Nike, The Right Step, ihoops, Steve Trauber, A-Rocket Moving and Storage and Lamborghini Houston for working with the JLF and John Lucas Basketball Resources to make the game happen.
