HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO SERIOUS SOUNDS OF HOUSTON: 20 YEARS AND COUNTING!

Serious Sounds Still Going!

Serious Sounds is a small record store in southeast Houston.  Despite the big box stores like Best Buy or  Walmart, Serious has endured.

The business is owned by Marketta Rodriguez.
Marketta Rodriguez

She began the shop back in December of 1991 and it has survived when similar shops have closed its doors.

But Serious Sounds has adapted over the years.

The store located on Martlin Luther King at 610 is now a quarter of its original size with only Marketta manning the counter.

Rodriguez says it has been a struggle.

However, while most Mom and Pop stores are afraid of change Marketta is not.

She's installed a computerized download kiosk in the store that allows her loyal customers to download their favorite song for an average 99 cents.

They're also able to buy full albums of every major current artist on the market.

Her big download machine also has a lot of oldies in its files.
Create your own single or album on the download kiosk

She says it's a God send for those who don't have a computer or credit card to use ITunes.

Once your song is downloaded Rodriguez can place it on your mp3 player, sd card, thumb drive, or cd then you're out the door in five minutes.

The small business owner credits her longevity to a loyal customer support base in southeast Houston.

If you're ever in the area and you need your favorite single downloaded the legal way make sure you go see Marketta at Serious Sounds.

By the way, if she doesn't have what you're looking for then she will order it!

  1. Great to find a brick and mortar record store like this. I miss thumbing through the old R&B selection. I miss the Sound Warehouse stores(closed now). Thanks for the blog Isiah! See you soon Ms. Rodriguez.
