Two former U.S. Attorneys in Texas have joined the law firm of former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft. Johnny Sutton was the top federal prosecutor for the Western District of Texas for more than seven years before resigning last week. He joins Ashcroft's firm along with John Ratcliffe, the former chief of the Eastern District of Texas, and two other Bush administration prosecutors.
The form will be called Ashcroft Sutton and Ratcliffe LLC. Sutton's tenure was marked by his prosecution of two Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a fleeing drug smuggler. Sutton
said before resigning that he doesn't regret prosecuting the pair, though he called their mandatory 10-year sentences harsh.
